The Ultimate Tour

Time: 7-8 hours

Length: 10-14 km

Style: overview

Price: €270

The Ultimate Tour is one of my most popular tours in Budapest. This tour allows you to see and admire all the highlights of Budapest in just one day. Recommended for those who are visiting the bustling Hungarian capital, the “Queen of the Danube” for the first time and want to get an overview of the main attractions.

  • It is a long day tour and gives you a detailed overview of the city.
  • You can choose whether you want to do the Ultimate Tour in one day or split it into two half-days.
  • My recommendation is to do it in two half-days. This makes it easier for you to absorb the impressions and digesting the new loads of information will be less tiring.

On this tour, you will get to know the UNESCO historical sites both in Buda/Buda (Castle Hill, Matthias Church, Fishermen’s Bastion, Gellért Hill) and in Pest (Parliament House, Szt.István/St. Stephen’s Basilica, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes’ Square, City Park) and the bridges over the Danube.

The Ultimate tour is popular among the other tours because – despite being a general tour – this is a detailed one, covering almost everything important to see. In short, you get to see all the important sights in detail.

During a guided tour of the Castle Hill in Buda/Buda you will wander around picturesque streets where the nobility of Buda once lived, you will visit the Matthias Church also known as the Nagyboldogasszony Temple or Church of Our Lady and from the Fishermen’s Bastion you will have a beautiful view across the Danube River and the magnificent Parliament Building of Hungary.
Walking further you arrive at the former Royal Palace. Today it is an imposing building with a facade of no less than 300 meters. The palace now serves as a museum: the National Gallery with a rich collection of Hungarian art, the Historical Museum and also the National Széchenyi Library are located here.

Based on the decision of the Hungarian government, the National Hauszmann Program was launched in February 2019. The program aims to bring back the glory of the 19th and 20th centuries in the Buda/Buda Castle District.

The palace complex is now being reconstructed, the reconstruction of the Guardhouse, the Stable and the Csikósudvar (court) with the statue in front of the new Stable has already been completed.

The area between the parliament building and the Szt.István/Saint Stephen’s Basilica in Pest is a real gem with its Art Nouveau architecture. This also includes stories about the Austro-Hungarian Dual Monarchy, events in World War II or the Hungarian uprising of 1956.

Believe me, this private tour will amaze you with the beauty of this city.
The Ultimate tour offers a general but detailed overview and can of course be adapted to your own wishes.

The city tour can be divided into two half days as mentioned above: one day you will visit the right bank of the Danube in Buda/Buda with the Castle Quarter, while the second day you will visit the left bank of the river with the city park and the Jewish Quarter with the Dohany Synagogue.

In terms of transportation, these tours can be done partly on foot and partly by public transport, as the main historical sites are sometimes far from each other, such as in Pest and Buda/Buda.
Nevertheless, I can also arrange a car or a minibus with a driver for my clients if they wish, which some guests prefer.
In any case, Budapest has a very cheap and efficient public transport system with metro, trams, and (trolley) buses. Europe’s first underground railway line (not metro!) also runs in Budapest (Pest) – traveling with it is a must.

The city tour is with a rental car/bus.
Price: guide price + rental car/van with a driver excluding entrance tickets.
